ADAPTING ASSETS TO EXPAND MARKETS
Integrated filtration systems that adapt existing mill infrastructure to expand capacity and access new markets.
VITALIV™ systems for the pulp & paper industry integrate into existing process lines to unlock capacity already paid for, reduce loads on costly downstream equipment, and open pathways to new fiber-based product streams. Powered by ViaForge™ resilience, they operate reliably in the alkaline, high-temperature, fouling-prone streams where conventional membranes fail.
Drive Process Efficiency
Adopting membrane filtration reduces load and energy use in downstream units like multi-effect evaporators.
Increase Production Capacity
Remove processing bottlenecks to unlock capacity without installing additional evaporators.
Recover Valuable Material
VITALIV™ systems recover valuable pulp mill materials like black liquor and residual sugars while generating clean water.
Weak Black Liquor
Pre-Concentration
VITALIV™ 1010
Black liquor recovery is the most capital and energy intensive component of a Kraft pulp mill. The VITALIV™ 1010 system concentrates weak black liquor prior to evaporation, translating to cost savings and operational benefits for pulp mills.
The VITALIV™ 1010 system displaces steam use in evaporators using a reverse-osmosis-like process to directly remove hot, clean water from weak black liquor (WBL). The compact system integrates into existing mill footprints to concentrate WBL up to 40% solids.
The efficient concentration process can eliminate production bottlenecks and reduce the energy consumption of black liquor concentration by up to 76% at full capacity. Mills with limitations in washing or high fuel costs typically realize additional free cash flow in the millions of dollars per year with a Via system.
Via’s first commercial scale VITALIV™ 1010 system is operational today at an International Paper site in Grande Prairie, AB. To learn more about how Via can improve efficiency at your facility, please contact us.

OLIGOSACCHARIDE RECOVERY
Concentrate C5+ oligomeric sugars in the condensate stream from hot water extraction, offsetting neutralization waste and creating a new product stream, as well as generating clean water for use elsewhere in the mill.
